Project Friday-Hydrangea Wreath

I'm so glad to be back on blogger, if you've ever had computer problems you know how frustrating it can be. So sorry I've not been able to answer emails or visit other blogger friends and I have missed Project Friday. I do hope someone is still following Project Friday. It is a fun meme were you post project that your working on or completing projects you've been wanting to finish.

My project is a wreath, as you've noticed I love working with florals. If you've been following my blog for a while you may remember the post on drying Hydrangea's. I do hope many of you dried some of those blooms because that's what we're using along with ribbon, grapevine wreath, angel hair, and plastic bird eggs.
The first thing I'm going to do is make a nest out of angel hair. I love working with this stuff it is so natural and pliable. As you can tell I'm pulling some of the hair apart and will wrap it around and around to make my nest.

Can you see the tiny twigs? I'm wiring this onto my wreath and then will add the 3 plastic eggs.

Just add the dried Hydrangea blooms, with hot glue, around the wreath. I'm only going about three-fourths around mine. This wreath is so easy to make, anyone can do it.The ribbon I already have is too wide, so I'm cutting it narrower. And I made my bow very uneven to give it a whimsical look.

Below is some baby's breath dried and I'm just going to add sprigs of it between my blooms. This baby's breath came out of my Valentine bouquet.

I then add tiny sprigs of the Hydrangea bloom to fill in my empty spaces.

And we're finished. This wreath took only 20 minutes to make and here I have it hanging on an old window. The window will be hung right outside my back door.

Ahhh, it's finally spring, white Spirea and Azaleas are still everywhere at my house. Can you see the Daylilies? My backyard, this area is going to be relandscaped this year by adding a in ground swing and lots of Daylilies and more Roses.

Pink Saturday

I had all kinds of pink flowers bloomin' in my garden this week, so it wasn't hard to decide on the pinks I was going to show. Here is a cotton candy Amaryllis. Barbara Bush Rose, this one is so soft and delicate looking.

And I still have Azaleas blooming. This is a late bloomer every year and has ruffle blooms.

Project Friday

Oh my, I'm running late! Welcome to Project Friday, so glad you could stop by. My project this week is really a very simple one. This can be used all year round.
You take a large jar or glass cylinder and add green moss. Just stuff the moss down tight in the cylinder/jar. You then add bird eggs, which can be purchased at Michaels or Hobby Lobby. I have used bird eggs here but you can also use easter eggs. After Easter I'm keeping the blue robin eggs in the jar and taking the other out.

You can also tie a ribbon or tag to the jar. So super simple but very elegant.

Just click on the side bar meme and it will take you right to Jean's place. Below is a pink Azalea, I still have a few that is still in bloom. Lavender clematis by my backdoor steps. This will bloom just about all year until it get real hot.

This is a pink/orange Honeysuckle vine. It was just a tiny thing when I first bought it.

An old rose by my garden shed, and as you can tell it is full of buds.

Project Friday-Cupcakes

Welcome to Project Friday! This is week number 6, can you believe it has been six weeks since I started Project Friday. I am so grateful for the participates who have joined me each Friday. I must say this week has just flown by and I didn't get to work on any big projects. My project today is a cheap baking ingredient I've been using for years. I'm using a box of orange cake mix, perfect for light Easter cupcakes. I mix and bake as usual.

See how pretty they are. I dip a 1/4 measuring cup in my mix to get the cupcakes the same size.

Now for the icing, I make Buttercream frosting for most of my cakes.1/2 cup of shortening

1/2 cup of butter

4 cups of confectioners sugar
2 spoons of vanilla or almond extract
2 Tablespoons of milk

Cream butter, shortening and vanilla until smooth. Then mix in one cup of confectioners sugar at a time add the milk and mix well.Then add the secret ingredient, KOOL-AID or JELLO that's right I added orange kool-aid for flavoring. This is an inexpensive alternative to those expensive extract, it also gives your frosting just the right color.

I was a single mom of two, for many years. During those years I learned a lot about frugal living, making do with what you have or doing with what you've got. In trying times you'd be surprised how creative you can be. This is one frugal idea I'll always use, even though I can now buy those extract flavorings. See how orange this frosting looks, make me this of push up ice cream.

You can also add dyed green coconut to make grass for the top, don't they look delicious? Trust me they are.

Simple Abundance

I do hope everyone is havin' a great week. I have been so busy, I haven't had time to visit all the wonderful blogs I adore. I so enjoy this weather we're having, perfect for all those chores in the garden, although I have done little gardenin' this week. It is good to go out and pick a hand full of fresh blooms to bring in the house.

We are havin' a Spring Open House this afternoon so I'm spending the mornin' baking a cake and other goodies. I've been out in the sheds this week gathering treasures to put in the store. I have found things I had ordered a year ago and had forgotten about. Lord, do I need help! I have vowed not to buy a single thing until I get rid of all this stuff, yea right.

We are all blessed with an abundance of things we need and don't need. Things we think we have to have and those things we just keep hanging on too-just in case we may need them. Easter is a time to remember that none of these material, worldly goods are what matter. The Son of God and our love for one another is what we should be focusing on. Take the time today to give all the glory to God for our abundance of blessings and loved ones.

5th Week of Project Friday

As some of you know I've been real sick all week and I thought I wouldn't have a project ready. But what kind of host of Project Friday would I be if I didn't have a project. So since I needed to make an Easter wreath, I decided that would be my project for this week. Please remember I threw this together in a short amount of time. It would have looked a little better if I started on it yesterday. I also wanted to show everyone the mesh/netting I use for decorating. I love this stuff, there are so many ways you can use it. I do have a variety of colors listed in The Cottage Market, another blog I've been working on. The Cottage Market will have a lot of new items that can't be listed on my Etsy.

So let's get to the wreath. You'll need glue gun, flowers, mesh, wire and a wreath. This wreath has been recycled. Yes I recycle wreaths, when the flowers get faded I just rip them off and redecorate the wreath again.

When I start using the mesh I grab one corner and put all the way down my roll. I use wire to tie this onto the wreath. I'm first going all the way around the wreath with the pink about every 6"s I pull the mesh and bunch it up a bit before I tie it on the wreath

Then I added my yellow the same way. Just weave the yellow in and out the pink.

And this is what it's going to look like.

Then start adding your flowers. I bought yellow and pink tulips several weeks to make a floral arrangement in a vase, but I like them with the mesh better.

Here is my finished wreath. You wouldn't believe how easy this mesh is to use. Next week I'll show you how to decorate an Easter tree with it. This wreath will be going to the store to sell. And I'm off to make another one. I'm on a roll.

Under the weather

See where I've been for three days and the green eyed monster has been my bed partner. I woke up Sunday morning feeling real tired and with a sore throat. After church I came home and went to bed, that's where I've been since. I did go to the doctor yesterday, she gave me 4 different kinds of medicine. I have to eat a meal with two of them, although I can't keep anything on my stomach and drink a glass of water with the other one. What part of "I can't keep anything on my stomach" did she not understand.

**************************************************I have to go back in tomorrow for some test and a complete workup. Since I had recently lose 11 pounds, she wants to do some blood work. I tried to tell her working almost round the clock will make you lose weight, not to mention eating an unhealthy diet. So for now I'm in bed with my dog and laptop, what more does a person need?

Bloomin' Tuesday at Jean's place

This is what's bloomin' in my garden this week. Of course I have Azaleas, here in the South everyone has Azaleas bloomin. Just drive down any street in Laurel and you'll see these beauty's everywhere. My favorite are the white ones, they are so pure and simply. If you look to the right you'll see some white and yellow irises in full bloom.

Here is one of my Dogwood trees with a red Camellia in the background. Camellia are what I call winter roses, in a few weeks most all the blooms will be gone. Doesn't the red and white look gorgeous?

While out taking pictures today I got a photo of two lizards, looks like they are thinking of moving in. I may not have any birds left, once these two fellers make their roundsHope you have a great Gardenin' day. Let's go play in the dirt, Rosemarie

Bluebirds have moved out

I have been watching this male and female bluebirds for weeks. This birdhouse is right outside my window where my computer sits, so they were in plan view of my camera and I. Everyday I kept a close eye on them in hopes of getting photos of their young as they were taught to fly. Well apparently when I was in Kentucky the momma and daddy decided it was time for the little ones to move out. I came back Thurday night and they were gone. I guess I'll have to wait for the next family to move in. I do hope it won't be long.

Pink Saturday

I returned home from Kentucky yesterday and unloaded all my treasures. Below are a few things I purchased while I was there. I just know there's some pink, somewhere.Awwwe, these precious pieces of china has pink on them. And this set of berry bowls, which is like Pyrex.

And of course there is pink milk glass and Homer Laughlin dishes, love so much of his collection.

Project Friday-Tea Cups

My project this week is one I posted on my blog a while back showing you how to make cupcake plates, using candle holders and plates. This project is using a tea cup and saucer. You will need Devcon glue, glass dome and cup with saucer and ribbon. This cup and saucer was one I won in a give-away from Country Romantic at http://countryromantic.blogspot.com/

Squeeze a generous amount onto cup and mix.

Turn your saucer upside down and glue cup in the center of saucer, like the one on the right. The one on the left is glued with the cup in the saucer because I'm gonna glue another plate on top of it.

In the meantime I used a flower frog and stuck a few sprigs of rosemary in it and sat it on the plate.

I then used a candle votive, this one is from Home Interior and placed it over the rosemary, tied a ribbon and tag... I'm done.

This one has a handmade birds nest and plastic eggs on the plate, and then covered with a dome.

Or you can use a glass globe and use it as a candle holder.

Ramblin around Kentucky

I haven't posted for a few days because I'm in Kentucky visitin my family. I have to admit though that I've been shopping for the last three day. Everytime I come home they're are several places I just have to go. The Peddlers Mall in Campsbellville and Elizabethtown. Now I'm trying to pack it so it will look like I only bought a smaller amount, remember my husband's with me, I think I'll try to shrink wrap it. I will be going back to Mississippi broke and happy, the Lord blessed me with a lot of bargains.

Pink Saturday

This Pink Saturday I choose to post more pictures of my azaleas. That's whats bloomin' here in Mississippi. Azalea grow so well here due to the acidity of the soil. They bloom profusely and are in everyones yard, looks like a large color wheel because they come in all different colors. When you want to start a new bush just break a piece off an existing plant and stick it in the ground. Thats it, before you know it you have a new azalea bush. Hope you enjoy.

Project Friday-Wooden Letters

This week I chose a super easy project. I've worked with the large letters to make words and loved how they turned out. This time I used the thick wooden letters that stand up. I'm making these for my dining room table, when I get my Lu ray dishes on it, but for now have displayed these on a table in my family room.

First you will need Mod Podge, the letters, scrapbook paper and sponge brush. I found the letters and scrapbook paper at Hobby Lobby. The biggest problem was choosing which paper to use. All this beautiful paper was like fabric to me and I wanted one of each pattern.I laid my letters front side down and traced them with a pencil. I then cut them out and applied mod podge to glue them on the wood.Last I painted around the edges of each letter with different colors of acyclic paint, really I should of done this first. I had to be careful not to get any paint on the paper.

And the results....... just peachy keen. Laaaw I never thought they'd turn out this pretty. And just look at how easy this was.

You could also use buttons or ribbon to decorate your letters more. I do hope Denise at http://lookbeyondthepicketfence.blogspot.com/ sees these. She does a wonderful job on all her paper crafts. You must go by and see her.

Herb Pots

I purchased this recently for a few dollars. It is a stand that holds 5 pots. Along with it came the dirt and seeds to grow 5 different kinds of herbs.Have you every seen these little tablets of compressed peat moss with the seeds in them? I don't know how they do it but it starts out being about 1/2" thick........... and them a pot full of soil when you add water to it. Have you every used these little compressed seedlings tablets? I haven't so I'm keeping my hummm, thumbs crossed. I have placed them in front of 2 sets of french doors, so I know they will get plenty of light. Just hope these birds don't eat the seed. Project Friday***Decorative Plates

Don't you just love beautiful plates? My project is showing you how to create decorative plates without spending alot. You will need: clear plate, mod podge, (yes I still use the stuff) bowls, varnish, foam brush and floral fabric.

Press and lay out your piece of fabric right side up. Lay your clear plate on top of fabric and place it over the design you want your plate to have. Cut around plate adding about 1 or 2"s. Remove plate and apply mod podge with sponge brush onto ride side of fabric. Lay plate over your design and flip upside down onto bowl. Apply more mod podge to back of plate and smooth out. Smooth real good or you'll have bubbles. Smooth excess fabric around plate rim. Leave and let dry overnight. Your plates are gonna have a milky look, but don't worry this will all dry clear.

After a day lay plate on cardboard and cut excess fabric off. You can use a knife or scissors.Ta....Da, your decorative plate. You want to spray the bottom of your plates with varnish, which helps seal the edges. Of course you can't serve food on these, but I still think they're adorable.

And the results: Hanging two together with a ribbon. I first placed a plate hanger on my plates and hung them on wall. Then I started at the bottom and came up behind the smaller plate. I put a small nail at the top to hang my bow. Ribbon is just one piece.Can you see the plate that I made to match the dining room chairs I covered. Very cute as a charger with a small china plate on top.I made a square plate for the top of my dresser to hold vintage jewelry. Love this material, I have also made an apron out of it for my Etsy.
Below you can see I've taken a small paint brush and gold acrylic paint and painted around rim of plate.
I purchased the round plates at Hobby Lobby and the square plates at Wal-mart. You can also display these plates on a table, using an easel or a lot of them grouped together on a wall.

My Latest Addiction

Why do we collect STUFF? If I only knew, maybe I would be able to control my spending. The Lord blesses me above and beyond my means, and I know I should not be collecting all these material THINGS, but the flesh is weak. Just like these Apothecary Jars, I love everyone I see and usually buy it. I have one in my foyer, which is decorated in garden decor. I just added speckled eggs to it. I have one in my family room in which I placed a single pear in it.

I have these, which are old, on my kitchen sink. One is filled with dish detergent and the other with liquid soap.

This one is in my living room holding a single dried Hydrangea bloom.

One is in my daughters room holding strands of pearls.

and my favorite is in her bathroom holding a birds nest.

I love it even better with the lid off.
And these two are in the kitchen holding pods that look like oranges and lemons.
I shall restrain myself from buying anymore.... unless they are on sale. Do you have a Collection Addiction? What is it you collect?

Bloomin' Tuesday at Jeans

So sorry I'm postin' this late but I've been outside this mornin' taken pictures. Below is my poor little Kumquat tree. These are suppose to grow tall, but mine has stayed the same size for the last 3 years. I don't know exactly what I'm doin' wrong. Don't ya just love Camilla's? It is so hard to capture how beautiful these are with a camera. They are a wonderful addition to any garden. Here in the south they bloom all winter.

This is a sweet bush that blooms early spring here, I love it. It has little fireworks of tiny blooms.

Here is another Camilla right outside my bathroom window.

Well girls it is Saturday again and also the 1st of March. Can you believe how fast time goes by, no wonder I can't get everything done. Now lets see, what project are we gonna do next. I have so many I need to do, it's not gonna be hard for me to choice one.

On to Pink Saturday, thanks to Beverly at How Sweet the Sound for being our hostess. It takes alot of her time hosting this event, that we love. Here are a set of bowls I purchased recently.
They are shaped as eggs and just notice that pink one. Not for sure what I'm gonna do with them, but hey, they were on sale!

Below is a creamer and sugar set. I found these at a thrift store for just $2.50, hard to believe isn't it?

I love this lamp with its stained glass shade. It is very, very heavy. I had purchased this a while back, but had never used it until I started redecorating my daughter's bedroom.

And since I've been sewing this week I wanted to show you a tote I made, of course I had to use this fabric because of all the pink and cottagey look.

"Project Friday" Pillowcase Dress & Bloomers

We'll it is finally my first "Project Friday". I am so glad that you've came to visit Sugarplum Cottage. Whether your a participate or viewer I do hope you'll relax with a cup of coffee and enjoy all the wonderful projects that these special ladies have posted. I also want to thank all those that are participating this week.

My project for this week for this week is: a Pillowcase dress and the Bloomers to match. I'm ashamed to tell you how long I've had it cut out, but I will tell you I've not seen it since last summer.

These outfits are very easy to make just use a pillowcase and extra sheeting material for the bloomers or you can use fabric, as I have done. You don't need a pattern for the dress, just use a regular size pillowcase and cut a scoop, like a smile, all the way across the pillowcase. Then on one side cut in about 3"s and cut out a "j", then lay so sides will meet and cut another.
I have used thin fabric that looks like hankercheifs sewn together. It is so thin I'm adding a liner underneath. Use the dress as a pattern & cut out liner, sew sides together. Then sew dress liner to dress with right sides together, around neck and sleeves. I do leave a space about 1 1/2" wide along the neck line for my ribbon. Turn and press. Top stitch 1 3/4" (depending how wide your ribbon is) around neck line. Then thread ribbon through neck pocket and gather, top stitch to hold ribbon in place. Thats it. Use a regular pattern and instructions for the bloomers. Sew matching ribbon on bloomers at sides or front. You can either gather the bottom or sew a small hem in them. When I sew my bloomers I put a piece of ribbon in the waistband so you can tell which is the front or back. This ribbon is usually sewn in the back.
After I finished them I added bowes to the front and attached them with small safety pins.
Below is my finished project. You can design your own dress and bloomers by adding buttons, ribbon bows, or painting on the pillowcase dress and bloomers. I have a crocheted pillowcase dress and bloomers listed in my Etsy, where I used an old pillowcase for the dress. If you have any questions please feel free to email me. Bloomin' Tuesday at Ms. Jeans

I have this little birdhouse on my back porch and just look how my Jasmine is swallowing it. This mornin' I tried cutting some of it back but it has wrapped itself around the whole side of the porch railing. Just as soon as it blooms I'm cutting this stuff to the ground.Can you believe I have yellow irises blooming? I've only had a couple of blooms and just had to get this picture. We have had an unusually cold winter here so all the flowers are coming out later than usual Ms Jean Greenthumb host Bloomin' Tuesday each week. Here's another bluebird, this female is checking this one out. My husband made this birdhouse last summer. I told him the birds would never build in it, I think shes gonna' show me.Well ladies "Project Friday" will begin February 27. I hope everyone, by now, knows what their gonna' post about. Pink Saturday Finally

I think I have finally repaired my computer. I was trying to put Mr. Linky on for "Project Friday". Only I would delete, move and reedit everything on my blog. After two days I have recovered everything. Now I'm not for sure if my Mr. Linky is still on my computer.

So even though I'm late I'm posting my Pink Saturday anyway. First is a picture of my beautiful, loving, precious daughter, Jessica. Jessica attends the University of Kentucky.
Next is a few pieces of my Cabbage Rose Depression glass my dear mother gave me years ago. I'll never, never, never give these up Lil Sis. Yes my laundry basket is pink. I love it. Looks kinda sick next to this Pistachio pudding green.

I want to apologize to all those that came to visit, but didn't see Pink Saturday. And to Beverly at How Sweet the Sound, she does a wonderful job keep up with us. Have a sweet night, Rosemarie

Just lookie what I found at the thrift store. I couldn't believe I found this laundry cart and just for $2.99. I thought the candle holders looked shabby chic and must use them....somewhere. The shelf/drawer thingy will be a "Project Friday" post and be used to hold cookbooks, that is if I can find a place in my kitchen to put it. I am so thrilled, that so many of you responded to the Project Friday idea. I've been busy getting everything ready for my first event. I'll have Mr. Linky posted so participates can type in their name and blog address on to Sugarplum Cottage blog and viewers will be able to go directly to their Project Friday post. Bloomin' Tuesday at Greenthumb Jean

This week I didn't get outside to take any pictures, so I took some of what is inside my house. You gotta love these red tulips. Can you believe I picked these up a Wal-Mart for just $3.00. The minute I saw them I knew I had to get me a couple.Although this topiary doesn't have a bloom, I had to show it to you. I also picked these up last week at Lowe's for just $14.00 a piece. Yes I had to have 2 of these too. I have two new pots I'm gonna put'em in.

And last I have 16 long stem white roses, beautiful aren't they? Sad to say these are silk, but they look real. Be sure to visit Jean to see other participates. Just click on the Bloomin' Tuesday picture located on my sidebar.

Project of the Week

This is a project I actually done a while back, but just now posting it. I love making junk into a treasured piece for my home. If you visit my blog often, you know I adore old windows. There are endless ways to use these precious pieces in and around your home.

Below I have taken a four panel window and painted it red. I used a paint called "1881 Crackle Medium" with this medium you don't have to use a crackling agent because it is in the paint.
I then used regular acrylic paint in Maple Sugar and dabbed it on with a sponge brush. As soon as you dab your paint on it will begin to crackle. You can see the red lines or maybe not, it is really hard to see in this picture.

I then used a stencil of a rooster and chicken and stenciled it on with acrylic paint in Pearl Finish. This paint makes it look like it has been etched into the glass

You can then attach a shelf to the bottom of the window or just use it as it is.

Here I've hung the window in my kitchen, the red wall makes my stenciling really show up. I used finishing nails to hang my aprons on, of course I had to use apron with red in them to match my kitchen. You could also hang utensils on it or tape recipes or photos to the panels.

Pink Saturday!!!

This is my sweetheart, so I'm wishing him a wonderful Happy Valentine's Day. He is truly a OOAK, a good Christian man who has always worked hard. He loves his family and will do anything for them. His weakness are motorcycles and Ford Mustang, bless his heart. We had just gotten back from riding all day on the e motorcycle, notice how sun burnt my face was and my wind blown hair. Laaaaaw, I look a sight for sore eyes.

Someone had ask me yesterday what we were doing for Valentine's Day, I immediately replied, "we celebrate Valentines Day everyday". God has really blessed us with a good life and relationship-we're still on our Honeymoon and will be until the Lord calls one of us home.

It is gorgeous here in good Ole Mississippi and I am truly enjoying my day off. Couldn't resist going outside a bit this mornin' and take some pictures of the bluebirds that have moved into two of our birdhouse. They have been so busy getting that nest ready for their little ones. I love the birds and I try to entice them everyway I can to build in my boxes. I keep birdseed and water out for them at all times. So hope it is warm where your at too. Hugs, Rosemarie

Today I'm offering another cupcake plate. This one is Little Ms. Sunshine and has all the colors of spring. This would also look great with a few lemons in it. Little Ms Sunshine is just $24.00, plus train fare.

Walter is a lover of old Mustangs and just last weekend he went to Georgia to buy a little black Mustang Coupe. Because It Was Cheap!!!

I just bought this for just $13.00, can you believe it. It is cast iron and quite large, which makes it very heavy. The problem is I can't decide whether I should paint it a creamy white or leave it as is. I'm not even sure what I'm gonna put in it.

A Day in the Garden

It is so beautiful today I couldn't resist going outside in my pj's this mornin' (I love doing this when it is warm) and once I stepped out my back door I headed for the garden shed.

As I started trimmin' my roses bushes I saw all these beautiful blooms on my Camilla's. Oh how I love Camilla's! I had bought a new one last year and was anxious to see if it had bloomed, sad to say it is still full of buds. But just look what I found. My little Holly had wonderful little berries on it, but doesn't look as good as it did last year. I think I'm gonna' have to trim and fertilize it.

This is my favorite, of course it's pink. Can you see the little bees already gathering the sweet nectar these flowers provide? Can't wait for the Hummingbirds.

I only have had Wrens in my birdhouses this winter, but oh how busy they've been. I noticed this mornin' several families have even take shelter in the shed. They slip in under the eaves of the roof. One has built a pocket nest inside the insulation and one in an old basket hanging on an old rusty nail. The other is inside a wreath that I use outside in the summer. It is decorated with daisies and small clay pots, the nest is built in the clay pot and extends about 2"s outside the rim. I can tell this bird has good taste in decorating. It seems like every time I get a day off, I have to do laundry. I get so tired of the stuff, I think someone should invent disposable clothing. Of course this wouldn't be very frugal, but I've been trying to catch up on my laundry for the last 32 years.

Don't you just love it when your driving down the road and find a wonderful treasure. That is what happened to me Saturday mornin', actually my husband was the one driving. And of course I saw it before he did, but he knows when I lunge and grab his arm he is to brake and stop now.

Who wouldn't want this window with all the panes and glass was only missing out of one of them. This is a large window that would make a perfect door for a cabinet or to hang over a bed or couch. Oh how my mind went whirlin' of what I was gonna do with it. Whatchall think, don't you love it? Maybe I'll just hang it on my garden shed and put hooks on it to hold garden tools. That's it, just what I'll do with it.

Oh my, how I've been workin'. Here it is the first of January and I'm spring cleaning.

I have no idea where all this stuff-treasures came from. I collect anything chenille, aprons, pillowcases, vintage hats, purses and clothing, not to mention vintage jewelrey and anything that has to do with vintage laundry items and antique kitchen utensils. Yesterday morning I went through my apron collection. I MUST SELL SOME OF THESE BEAUTY'S
This one is adorable and in very good condition, it has a cross-stitched bottom and pockets.
It is so springy looking I almost wanted to keep it, but remember I'm downsizing my collection.

Let's make Cupcake Plates!!!!!

I have always loved making something special out of items you no longer use. You should already know how much I love to shop for treasures and one of those items I buy are cheese ball covers and candle holders. Let me show you what I do with them. You will need some epoxy glue, glass dome, odd candle holder and a pretty plate and spray paint. Dinner plates are to large for this project unless you have a short and rounder candle holder. You can also use cups for a shorter cupcake plate.

Simple paint the candle holder to match your plate. As you can see I've taken the brown candle holder and painted it white. My taste is country, French country, shabby chic and primitive. I know, your probably thinking what my house looks like with all that different decor, lets just say it looks lived in and leave it at that.
You want to open your epoxy glue (I use Devcon) very carefully, this stuff is very effective for gluing glass. It also is very effective for gluing fingers together, believe me I know first hand. Simple center the candle holder to the bottom of the plate and mark, apply glue and press. Let this dry for about 2 hours.
How simple is that, you now have a beautiful cupcake plate or display plate. I use mine to also display bird nest or candies. These make a wonderful and unique gift. You can order these from Sugarplum Cottage for $30.00, plus train fare. This one is also for sale.

Does anyone love shoes the way I do? I find the older I get, the brighter I like my shoes.
Years ago I wouldn't be caught dead in polka-dot shoes, but now I love'em. My favorite are vintage shoes, and yes I wear them. Of course I don't wear heels everyday, I also love flipflops and Crocs.

My husband says I have enough shoes, but what does he know about shoes. Like the sign says "I can deal with anything if I have the right shoes". What kind of shoes do you love to wear?

No I'm not a poet, but I do love my little sister, Pamela at Beehind Thyme Primitives. This past weekend, while I was in KY, she gave me this seamstress mannequin. Shes had this for a long time and I've been wanting it ever since she got it. Just look at how beautiful this lady is with her adorable apron, made right here at Sugarplum Cottage and of course she wouldn't be mine unless she wore pearls and lots of them. I'd have lipstick on her if she had a head. Just lookie she has 14 sections, hummm that means she will adjust to my size, yeah right.

I have yet to give her a name, but it must be somethin' southern. After all she will be at all my tea parties and be wearin' all those vintage hats and lovely jewels. Just as long as she doesn't reveal all my sewin' secrets, we'll get along just fine.

So glad to be posting again, I know, I know it has been a long time. But the Lord has been keeping me busy. Unfortunately that is no excuse. I can't wait to share all the wonderful things I've been creating here at Sugarplum Cottage. Oh my, have I been havin' fun, the days are just not long enough.

Summer has ended and Fall is passing quickly by. Oh how I love this season, the trees are just as beautiful as the flowers that bloomed all summer. My gardens are waitin' for an overhaul and I noticed this mornin' the first Camilla has bloomed. What a lovely landscape the Lord has blessed us with. He knows exactly how to comfort our soul and inspire us to love all things.

Before I forget, please allow me to encourage you to go vote. Yes, it is almost over, can you believe it? I don't know about ya'll, but I've tired of all this election coverage. We should all pray for our nation and our troops today and pray God will give wisdom and guidance to our next president. I have truly missed ya'll and I'm so grateful to all the emails I received. Remembering Katrina

I, along with many other people, are remembering and will never forget, what happened three years ago today. Katrina came and devastated many lives. We were hit quite hard, having over $50,000 worth of damage to our home, not to mention our property. It was amazing to see 150 year old oak trees fall like matchsticks. We had two large pine trees in our front yard that snapped like breaking a carrot. There was so much debris you couldn't even see a blade of grass on our lawn. There is nothing like living without electricity and phone service for two weeks or running water for a few days. I was so glad I had those old wash tubs in the shed. Our neighborhood looked just like a bomb had dropped from the sky. Even if you had filled your car up with gas, roads weren't passable for several days. I have always drank a lot of water and that was one thing I craved was ice water. After five days we heard some church organizations, from other states, were giving out ice. Each morning we'd drive to Kroger parking lot and wait two, three, four hours in hopes of getting a bag. But not once did we blame anyone for this catastrophe or expect the federal government to provide our every need. This was a natural disaster that the people wasn't ready for or Fema wasn't ready for. We were appalled at how some people complained about the federal government not meeting their every need or waiting too long to respond and just down right expected to be taken care of immediately, and still do. Yes, things were bad, it was so hot, we had no water, little food and could not communicate with the outside world. But no one was prepared for a storm of this magnitude, and this was nothing compared to what Jesus did for us on the cross.

My husband and I knew we had to do all we could to take care of each other and protect what we had left. As our freezer defrosted we grilled every thing we had and took plates to two elderly ladies that lived close by. We got out and worked in our neighborhood to clear trees and debris and we meet neighbors that we rarely saw. Everyday we were busy, the Lord is good, especially at a time like that. As I mentioned, I love ice water and had never really thought about how much I took clean drinking water for granted until then. One evening as my husband and I, along with our neighbors, were moving a tree from a ladies driveway, her daughter approached me with a large bag. There were so many others helping with the debris, but she walked over to me and handed me the bag and told me to take care of it for her and she would pick it up in a few days. Tired and bewithered I throwed the heavy bag over my shoulder and Walter and I walked back to our house. When we got to our yard I ask my husband wonder what could be in it, maybe I shouldn't open it since it really wasn't my bag. But I had to know so I slowly unzipped the bag and found it full of crushed ice, don't try to tell me it was a coincident. I know it was God taking care of me, even though I often fall short of his glory, he was answering my little prayer. Just thinking of that moment still brings tears to my eyes.

At night it was too hot to sleep, so we sat in our family room to guard a door that we could not shut, and talked in the darkness. We'd laugh because we couldn't see our hand in front of our face but we had each other and we had faith in God,..... he was the one in control. I know it was odd but we talked about when we first meet and reminisced about the time that had gone by. Never once did we complain, after all what was there to complain about, we were alive. Not once did we question why or worry about the next day. When people started moving in our town to help, we let them know how much they were appreciated. Our insurance company set up tents and wrote $500.00 checks out for their policy holders, just to buy groceries. They were wonderful and was very fair when estimating the damage to our home.

So here I am today making a list for batteries, water, and other essentials, because we know Gustav is heading straight for us. I have never been the type of person that panics over anything, but the good Lord did give me enough sense, this time, to go out and buy some bottled water for us and Vienna sausage for Walter, yuck. My Pineapple Lily

I wait all summer for this plant to bloom. It dies back to the ground in the winter and then grows out from the bulb in the summer, yet it doesn't bloom till late summer. The blooms are almost hidden within the stalks of green leaves. As you can see the third one down has already started going to seed where the little yellow blooms were. It thrives in a shady, moist area and requires no care at all. The lady we bought the house from brought it back from Japan in the 70's. Most people call this a Pineapple Lily and some have called it an Orchid.

Love the different colors. I'm going to separate it this fall, in hopes it will bloom more. Since it became crowded, there are fewer blooms.
This is by far the most usual plant I have in my garden. Please let me know it any of you have one of these. Happy Gardenin' Rose

I want to thank everyone who has sent emails asking about me. My life has been so full lately, I'm literally exhausted. I'm not complaining, I thank the Lord for blessing me as he has, but a mini vacation would sure be appreciated. It's good to know I always have my sweet dog to come home to. I raised Molly from the time she was 2 weeks old, so she trully is my baby. Of course my husband is as crazy about her as I am. You know your getting old when your dog is more entertaining that you are.

I have known Kathy for several years now and meet her at our church, so we are much more than friends, but sisters in Christ. Kathy has several disabilities but never complains or loses faith. Bloomin' Tuesday

So sorry I've not been posting for Bloomin' Tuesday, but my life has been turned upside down. Perhaps I could get everything accomplished, if I didn't have to sleep.
I had to show ya'll my largest Hydrangea bloom of the summer, it is 10"s in diameter. Wish all of them could be this big.
Don't you love the orange Roses against this green color? I sit them on my dryer, because they looked so good against the walls.

Since the weather has been in the 90's here with a heat index of 103 degrees, thought a snow covered Camellia would cool us off.

Chocolate Reese Cupcakes

This is a simple, but delicious recipe for cupcakes. It's a quick dessert that looks like you've took a lot of time making. Start with a milk chocolate cake mix and bake as instructed on box.

Cream together 6 Tablespoons of softened butter, 1/2 cup cocoa, 2 2/3 cups powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon of vanilla.
Chop a 10 pack of frozen Reese's cups in tiny pieces. Ice cupcakes and dip in chopped Reese's. You can also add a cup of peanut butter to the Chocolate Butter cream Frosting to give it a smoother, richer taste. Ahhhh, chocolate just what I needed. Hugs, Rose

It has been so hot and dry here, I'm surprised I have any blooms at all. Since I've been so busy I've not had a chance to be in my garden that much so when I walked through it this mornin' I was thrilled to see my Daylilies putting on a second show of blooms. Here are some sweet little Gerber Daisies. Roses are also putting on a nice show.

Friday Mornin' in the Garden

I have been so busy this week, I've not even had time to post or garden. So I took my camera with me when I strolled thru the garden this mornin' and these gorgeous flowers are what I found. This is a lily that stands about 4 foot tall. Wonderful little Cleome, I have these in white and pink.

I love Russian Sage, the foliage alone is beautiful.

Good Monday mornin', hope everyone had a wonderful Independence Day. Not only did we have a camping trip, cookouts and fun socializing, but we also took the time to celebrate our freedom.

Let us always remember the soldiers that are protecting us. I am so thankful I can worship the way I choose, carry a Bible where ever I wish and pray in public. We have had that freedom, in America, for so long we sometime take it for granted, without realizing other countries don't have that privilege. Let us always remember how blessed we are to live in America, Land of the free.

I did get in a little thrifting, this weekend. Just look at the old hats and lamps. The little bear lamp is a real treasure and is in perfect condition. I also loved the cone spools and ashtray that holds a pipe. To your right is a sheep's bell, made out of wood. And let's not forget the flower frog. All these items will be listed in my etsy or at The Cottage Market.

Bloomin' Tuesday

It is gorgeous outside this mornin'. I didn't want to even come back in to post these pictures for Bloomin' Tuesday, but I knew Ms. Jean was waitin' for me. See all these little orange blooms. Wanted to share a picture of my vegetable garden. See all my purple hull peas. We had never eaten any of these peas until we moved to MS. The first time I every cooked these, we thought they were the best thing we'd ever put in our mouths.

I still don't know what it is, so if any of you know please let me know.This is my husband's flower, his red Mustang. He's an old man but acts like he's 20 in this thing. Can you believe he has had this one for about 4 years and I've never got to drive it. Now just tell me who he loves the most?

Time for another Tea Party!

I love tea parties so much, and I'm ready to have another one. You know the kind that you really get dressed up for and have real food and live people (not that you guys aren't alive). Don't get me wrong, I love having parties in blog land, but it's not quite the same. I'm just trying to figure out when I can work one in. I always clean my house real good and I go through cookbooks to chose that perfect menu. I'll serve several flavors of tea and I always fix punch.

Since I'm having it this summer I'll choose a garden theme. I plan to fix tiny flower pots to use as place cards. I also want everyone to wear their best hats and wear lots of bling bling. Oh and I must have a door prize. My friend Dee, will be in charge of the games we play. My friend Cathy send me a photo from our Christmas tea party, just had to share it with you. That's me, just guess which one I am. No, no the one to your right, can you tell were havin' fun? Oh how I wish all of you could come, now I just have to set the date for the paaarrrttta. My husband, Walter is always building something. He loves taking old windows and making cabinets out of them. This is the cabinet he finished today. It's not very tall and he's added chunky feet to it. I love the beadboard backing. The cabinet door is an old window. We will be putting this in our shop to sell.
He built this one as a Christmas gift to me. This cabinet is made of 2 long windows on the side and the door was made for an old window out of a storm door. He then put a mirror in the back and a light in it. Everything he builds is from recycle material. Most of the time we also recycle the handles and hinges Do you realize what a honey-do-list I have for him? Yes, as soon as he got the cabinet finished I started him on some trays that will be in The Cottage Market. I can't wait to get the market up and running. I'll be offering Rachel Ashwell linens and Cottage chic decor. There will be a section for reproduction primitives and for vintage baby items as well as unique handmade items. Bloomin' Tuesday

Good mornin' and welcome to my garden. Below is "Ballerina", this rose blooms all spring, summer and fall. At the side of my shed you'll find white Gladiolas and Daylilies. I usually put annuals in the pots hanging on the side, but I've been too busy this year
And my fountain that has Hydrangea blooms floating in it. I love fountains in the garden better than anything.

Light Summer Cake

I wanted to share this light and fluffy recipe for Mandarin Orange Cake. This recipe is perfect for a summer cookout and is a cool fruity dessert. You'll need:

1 box DH butter cake mix

4 eggs

1 (11oz) can mandarin orange sections (undrained)

1/2 cup oil

For the topping:

1 (20 oz) can crushed pineapple with juice

5 1/2 pkg. instant vanilla pudding mix

8 oz carton cool whip

1/2 cup chopped pecans

Mix cake mix, eggs, oranges and oil into a bowl. Grease and flour 9 x 13 inch pan. I flour my pan with some of the cake mix.
Beat for 2 minutes or until oranges become pulp.
Bake in a pre-heated oven for 30 minutes at 350 degree. Let cake cool completely.
Mix pineapple, pudding and cool whip until fluffy. Frost cold cake and top with chopped pecans or you can mix the pecans in the frosting. Chill
Enjoy! You can also cut this cake up into bite size pieces and place in dessert cups. Then drop a T of frosting on top and add a mandarin orange on top. This makes a wonderful treat for a garden or tea party.

Welcome to my Garden. First I'd like to thank Cielo for hosting this party and graciously asking me to participate. I live in the deep South and have been posting pictures of my garden since April. Our spring begins early here and by then I'm itchin' to play in the dirt. Come on up and sit a spell on the porch with me and see my Geraniums, right now they only have a few blooms. I have the table set and have started making place cards and of course my first guest will be Cielo. I'm using flower frogs to hold the seed packs. We'll come back in later for tea.There are Roses everywhere, you'll notice that is one of my favorite flowers. Don't be shy pick all you want, so you can take a bouquet home with you."Tahiti Sunset" "Zephirine Drouhin" has the most wonderful smell
"Touch of Class" so unbelievable I'm sure as you pulled in the drive you were greeted by "Greetings""Julia Child" I also love yellow rosesOne of the beds I have down the driveway. Can you tell I love pink? Ahhh they don't grow any finer than this.As we go around the side of the house you can stop for a moment to rest by a Hydrangea.

I also love Daylilies, Oh o.k. I love anything that blooms. I have over 100 Daylilies and all are different colors. Oppps, another roseThis is a "Cotton Candy" Amaryllis and it really smells like cotton candy. These multiply like crazy.Clematis are also a must for my garden, you'll find this one in front of my garden shed.

Please have a seat and I'll go get the tea. I love sitting here in the evening and watching the birds. You can also hear and see one of the fountains from here. The birds love the fountain they come and play often. I told you I love pink. My husband builds anything I ask, like the door table. The table part is an old window No I don't mean these birds, although they require no care and eat very little.

Dryin' Hydrangea's

Today I've been cutting Hydrangea's for drying and wanted to show ya'll how I do it. Most of you probably already know, because they are several different ways. As you can see I've already cut my Hydrangea this morning. Pick the ones that have already started the drying process. You'll also need your containers, glycerin, and water. I pour quite a bit of glycerin in my water and mix it up. I've never measured how much glycerin I put, but I'd say a 1-2 cup fulls. With each stem I take every leaf off, then I split the end of it, you can use a knife or scissors. I split it so the it will take up more glycerin/water mix. You can place your vases through out your house, just don't place them in a lot of light. I put one on my dining room table.
I use the glycerin/water mixture because the glycerin helps retain their color and when completely dried they are more real feeling

Can you just see all the colors the Hydrangea has? The dark purple one you see in the middle is from my purple bushes. I only seen one this morning that had started the drying process.
And I put the other arrangement in my living room. I will use these in Christmas trees as ornaments and to decorate wreaths. If you have greenery in your house add several dried blooms to it. You can also spray paint these once they dry. Just spray lightly over the bloom, with the desired color of paint. You want to retain that dried look, so go easy on the paint. You can always add more color if you want. You can also hang Hydrangea blooms up side down in a dark place to dry or leave them on the bush. Singin' His Praises

"Singin' his praises all the day long" that is the song my blog would be singing, if I could figure out how to get music on it. I love sitting in my garden and listening to the sounds of the birds and the water flowing. Most of the time I just hurry by, but yesterday I took the time to stop, sit, and listen. Ahhhhh this is my little heaven on earth. Forget weeding, cleaning, laundry, or cookin' I could sit here all day taking all God has given me. I'm so undeserving, yet he blesses me abundantly and bestows his peace upon me.
When we stumble, he is there to pick us up. When we faultier, he is there to forgive. When we suffer he is there to show mercy. Why do we fall short of praising his name and glorifying Jesus?Please take the time today, and tell someone about our Lord and Savior, or just give a testimony of how he has touched you. You'll be surprised how easy your day will go, if you do.
My prayer is simple today, Lord teach me to stop and listen, so I may hear you,all the day long.

Flea Market Friday

I have so many wonderful treasures that I'm offering for Flea Market Friday today. First I have a tin container, measurements are 5 x 5 1/4 x 4 and the lid is attached at the back,the price is $3.50. Bottom reads "Made in England" "The M.B. co. LTD. The second tin looks like a dresser tin, beautiful little tin that is very old It measures 3 1/2 x 6 1/2. On bottom is says "Designed by Daher, Long island N.Y.11101, Container Made in England. The price is $6.00.

Cute little ceramic jar with handpainted cherries on it, measurements are 7"s tall. is in excellent condition. Price is $2.50
Beautiful very old bowl, has naturally crackled, measurements are 2 1/4 x 7"s. So cottage chic and is in very good condition, considering its age, no chips. The price is $7.00

Vintage hand held ornate mirror. On one side the mirror is smoky, but on the other side it is clear. It is 7"s long and 3 1/2" wide. The price is $3.00

This is a darlin' glass lamp, not sure on its age, but it works. It is 12"s tall without bulb or shade. Is in very good condition. The price is $18.00

Treasures from the Thrift

Just look at what the Sick Woman found this week. Can you believe all these goodies were callin' my name. First I bought the gold/white chenille bedspread $3.00, then I found the $3.00 cherry plate and .50 canister, stack of cups and saucers for .25 cents each. Hold on to your hats ladies the white hat was FREE after I paid $2.99 for the glass lamp. See the bowl, there is a name for it but I can't remember. It is a carnival glass with irises and stems, do any of ya'll know the name?
A few doilies and last the little flower cart that is also a planter. I think I'll paint it white.

My sweetheart of a husband didn't even ask why I bought it, or what I was gonna do with it, or where I was gonna put this junk, he just shook his head. Bless his heart, I think maybe he's mellowing in his old age. You know girls a way to a man's heart is through his stomach, now you understand why I cook so much. Bloomin' Tuesday already!

Can not believe it is Tuesday again, where does time go? Sorry if I'm late posting this but I've been late at most everything these days. My knee is still enabling me to do much and when your hobbling around on a cane you can't move very fast, but I can sure kill the black grasshoppers (that's eating my garden alive) with the end of it. This is a picture of my daughter smelling "Climbing America" at least she's pretending to smell of it. My little "Penny Mac" isn't she adorable?
One of my "Peace" roses. If your just startin' a flower garden this rose is a must.

I've had this for several years and cannot remember the name. It was one of those clearances from Waly-Mart, but is such a beautiful lady.
Another Daylily, hope ya'll don't get tired of all these Daylilies. I just love all the colors they come in.

Hmmmm Peach Cobbler & Worrin'

What is the next best thing to gardenin', cookin' of course. It is so hot today I've not must more opened the door, Oh I forgot, I did go pick a mess of greens and squash this mornin' for supper tonight. When it's this hot out, I either cook or sew. Along with our vegetables and roast we're having peach cobbler for dessert. This is the easiest peach cobbler you can make and it takes so little ingredients: 1 cup flour, sugar, and milk
Large can of peaches
1 stick of butter
3/4 cup brown sugar
Place peaches and cut up butter in casserole dish. Put in 400 degree oven to melt butter and get peaches hot.
Hand stir flour, sugar, and milk into a bowl. Don't worry if it is a little lumpy.
When peaches are hot take out of oven and add flour mixture

As you can see the mixture sinks to the bottom, as it cooks the crust will rise. Sprinkle brown sugar on top. Finish cooking until it is brown.

Grab bowl, vanilla ice cream and spoon, dig in before anyone else knows it's done. Ahhhhh delicious.

I use the same recipe with other fruit too. With fresh peaches, blueberries, cherries, blackberries and apples you must cook with sugar, water and cornstarch first before adding to casserole dish.

There is something I'd like to remind everyone. As gas prices and the cost of living goes up, so does stress and anxiety. But we should remember God gives us assurance in Matthew 6, 26-33 "Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, Oh you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the pagans run after all these things, and your Heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."

Praise God for his blessings of today, and do not worry about tomorrow. Besides we have no promise tomorrow will ever come. Give thanks and the glory to God with what he has provided for us today. Love life today, love those around us today, and ask for forgiveness today, show kindness today and smile, for you are a child of God, RoseMarie

My first item is a vintage baby comforter and pillow cover. This is in good condition considering it age, it does have a rip place on the pillow where has pulled away from seam line. Teacup Bird Feeder

I received my teacup bird feeder from Anne at http://www.annefannie.blogspot.com/ yesterday. She had this teacup as a give-away on her blog, wasn't that sweet of her? You will never guess how thrilled I was. It is more beautiful than it looked in her photo. I could kiss Alabaster's sweet face for picking me. She also sent me this sweet (I believe it is handmade) card, isn't it gorgeous? Anyway I rushed outside to put it in my garden, the problem was I couldn't decide where it should go. What do ya'll think?Here it is among my Rosemary, when it blooms it will look good against the purple. Or how about next to one of my Daylilies, these colors look good also. See the little pouch of homegrown birdseed, Anne sent along with it. This lady has it going on...very creative and talented.
